Learning new techniques is a great way to extend our creativity. This is one of those EASY stamping techniques that every stamper needs to know. So enjoy my demonstration of the Drop Shadow Stamping Technique then give it a try for yourself. Whether you’re trying it for the first time or bringing it back for a “renewal”, I have a feeling you are going to want to use this technique over and over again to create amazing cards!
I have come to love the THANKING YOU, SIMPLE BIRTHDAY, and CONGRATS Stamp Sets helpful in making quick and easy cards as well as for using the the Drop Shadow Stamping Technique. Of course, you may have lots of other stamps that would also work great with this stamping technique.

DSP Cutting Dimensions for 2 Drop Shadow Stamping Cards:
- Start with 6″ x 6″ DSP and cut as follows:
- Cut across DSP at 4″. You should now have a 6″ x 4″ piece and a 6″ x 2″ piece.
- With 6″ x 4″ piece in horizontal position, cut at 5 1/4″. You will use the 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece on card front and 3/4″ x 4″ piece on inside of card as shown in video.
- With 6″ x 2″ piece in horizontal position, cut at 5 1/2″. You will use the 5 1/2″ x 2″ piece on card front and 1/2″‘ x 2″ piece on inside of card as shown in video.
Other Dimensions for Drop Shadow Stamping Cards:
- Card base = 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, score at 4 1/4″ on long side, fold in half.
- Basic White inside = 5 1/4″ x 4″
- Card stock layer on front = 4 1/2″ x 3 1/4″
- Basic White for stamping = 4 1/4″ x 3″
Here’s a set of cards made using the Drop Shadow Stamping Technique in all the 2025 – 2027 In Colors. As you can see, the technique works best with medium to dark inks.
