Like many people, I've spent my life taking care of others, being there for others, giving to others. While all that is good and has brought me many blessings and great joy, it has also caused me to at times (ok, many times) neglect myself. So, now in my 50's, I've been working on self-care, and yes, it has been tough. I'm getting better at it, though. I'm paying more attention to my physical and mental health. I'm drinking more water, spending time in quiet prayer each day, getting more sleep (but still not enough). I've taken up running and really am starting to enjoy it. I sometimes skip some at-home-work to enjoy a glass of wine, a bowl of popcorn, and a movie or favorite show. I've been blasting music in my car going to and from work. (I was always telling my girls to turn the radio down in the car. What was I thinking???) I give myself permission to take a walk or ride my bike or just sit on the patio with my feet up BEFORE I mow the lawn. I might treat myself to a bubble bath and put my pj's on by 7pm. I hope that in doing all these things and many more, I'm becoming the best ME I can be. It is my hope that I'm showing my daughters that it is not selfish to take care of yourself. In fact, it is necessary for our well-being, leads us to peace and joy, and helps us to take better care of others.
I used my creativity, love of paper crafting, and some of my favorite Stampin' Up! products to make this home decor piece for myself. I have it displayed in my house where I see it everyday. It's pretty, it's inspiring, and, most importantly, it reminds me to take time for self-care so that I can achieve my goal of being the best ME that I can be.

Your collage of inspiration is truly beautiful not only in design but also in message. Thanks for sharing many ways we can be a better ME by taking time doing things we enjoy and ways to improve our health. 💕
Thank you, Gail for your comments. I’m grateful this project and post has meaning for you.
LOVE what you are learning about self care. I wonder if we can only learn this when we reach our 50s? Actually, I suppose many people never do. Cheering you on!! (Oh, and I love your beautiful creation, too.) 😉😁👍🏾
Thanks. It’s a journey and a lesson for us to share in hopes younger generations will learn this sooner than I did. Thanks for cheering me on. Glad you like the project.
I so enjoyed your message about taking care of yourself. It is so easy to put others before ourselves and I am still trying to learn to do this at age 70. Your project is wonderful, beautiful and inspiring.
I love this, one of my favorites. I was wondering what you’re using for the display box, if you dont mind sharing? Thanks.
Cheryl, thank you for your kind words. Life is a journey, and so is self-care.
I’m glad you like my project, Denise. The frame/shadow box was sold by Stampin’ Up! several years ago. Searching online for something similar may be your best bet.
Love this shadow box Mary!! It was so nice meeting you in person at Brian’s Fall Stamp Event and to hear the story behind the beautiful art work! You are setting a great example for all of us.
Linda, thank you for your kind words. I’m so glad you and your friend found me and introduced yourselves. I appreciate it more than I can say. I hope we see each other again!
