A Fun Twist on my Pocket Card

I love making pocket cards. The one featured in my last post is really fun and easy to make. It starts with a 5 1/4" x 12" piece of Designer Series Paper. (If you missed it, click here to view it now.) In today's Facebook Live video replay, I demonstrate how to make a Fun Fold Card using the same elements used in my Pocket Card. So take a look at this video. Learn how you can add a couple more scores lines and cuts to that 5 1/4" x 12" piece of DSP to make this new Fun Fold Card. Of course, using the Beauty of the Earth Suite makes creating beautiful cards pretty darn easy too.

Cutting & Scoring Directions:

  • Card Base = 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • DSP = 5 1/4" x 12", score at 4" & 8", flip over and score at 2" & 10"
  • Basic White inside = 5" x 3 3/4"

I made this Fun Fold Card using the same Designer Series Paper, sentiment, punch, ribbon, and embellishments as on one of the Pocket Cards from the previous post. A few extra score lines on the DSP can change this combination of supplies from a Pocket Card to a Fun Fold Card.

By changing out the paper from the Beauty of the Earth DSP pack and sentiment from Inspired Thoughts Stamp Set, it was easy to recreate this Fun Fold Card as a Christmas or Winter Time card. I simply love it. The ribbons and embellishments I chose fit perfectly with the other elements making this card oh so pretty.

Poinsettia Door Wreath

Screen Shot 2020-12-08 at 11.38.02 PM

Happy Thursday - 3D Thursday that is. I am honored and thrilled to have been asked to be the December 10th Guest Designer on the 3D Thursday Facebook Page. Of course, I said yes. This lovely poinsettia wreath is the project I designed and am so excited to be sharing. It really is quite easy to make and looks even more stunning in person. Make one yourself or make a few to give as gifts.

First Snowfall Scrapbook Pages

The beautiful snowfall we had in central Ohio this past week, really put me in a fun mood. I was recalling snow days growing up and then memories made on snow days with my own daughters. I liked to refer to snow days from school as "drop everything and play days". And that is exactly how this recent snow fall made me feel. I literally wanted to drop everything I needed to do and just play. But work calls and that was just not possible, and I didn't have any kids around to build a snowman or make snow angels with. BUT...I stayed very focused and driven from early morning 'til late morning, then bundled up and put my snow boots on to take myself on a walk around my neighborhood for a break from my many tasks of the day. That was the best bit of self-care I made time for all week. I looked around on my walk at just took in the beauty of the beautiful snowfall - the sites of snow on the tree branches, the sound of the crunching snow under my boots, and the feel of the cold, fresh air on my face. I felt energized and filled with joy. I snapped a few pictures along my walk. And so as the week went on and the snow melted and I took a look at those pictures, I decided I need to make a scrapbook layout of this first of December snowfall. So why not use that as a Facebook Live, right? In the following video replay of my December 2nd Facebook Live, you'll see my demonstration of my 2-page scrapbook layout. I tore card stock for snow hills, die cut stitched triangles for pine trees, and added some cute critters from the Freezin' Fun Bundle. I hope you enjoy the demonstration and feel inspired to preserve some of your recent memories too. Sometimes it just feels good to take in life's simple pleasures and just be in the moment, and then to reflect on their meaning and capture the memory. After all, sometimes it's the little things that really are the big things, so why not capture those memories too.

Make a Holiday Pocket Card

I've been making Holiday Pocket Cards and want to show you how! Take a look at my November 30th Facebook Live Video Replay for a complete demonstration. You'll see me make 2 pocket cards start to finish plus see a few others I made. Pocket cards are lots of fun to make and send. They also make great gift card holders just in time for the upcoming holidays. Or switch out the colors and stamp set to make pocket cards for birthdays and other occasions. These are so easy to make, you'll want to make several in one sitting. Watch, be inspired, and stamp on!

Itty Bitty Christmas Stamp Set, Triangle Dies & Classic Christmas Designer Series Paper by Stampin' Up!

My Pocket Card Dimensions:

  • Card base - 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" x 1 1/4" on long side. Fold in half then fold flap out.
  • DSP - 5 1/4" x 2" and 5 1/4" x 1" for front of pocket card and 3/4" x 2" for pull tag. Have fun mixing & matching your DSP.
  • Card stock layers for pull out - 4 1/2" x 3 3/4" and 4 1/4" x 3 1/2".

I made my pine trees using Triangle Dies in various sizes to die cut various patterns of Shaded Spruce DSP from the Classic Christmas Designer Series Paper. It's easy and FUN to mix and match the sizes and patterns of your pine trees to create festive pocket cards to spread Christmas Cheer.

I die cut the 2 layers of white poinsettias from the Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper. The flower centers are from the Holiday Rhinestones which include 5 gorgeous colors of rhinestones. I used the holly leaf dies to cut the Green Foil Paper leaves.

My holly leaves turned out exactly the way I wanted them to - with lots of detail to add more interest. I first stamped the outline of each holly leaf with Shaded Spruce ink onto my Designer Series Paper, then stamped the inside color. I then die cut the holly leaves while also using the embossing dies that embossed the veins of each leaf. It sounds complicated, but it really was not.

3 large pearls colored with Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends marker are the perfect finishing touch adding beauty and elegance to this already pretty pocket card.

Emboss Resist Technique with Snowflake Wishes

If you love stamping techniques, especially Heat Embossing, I think you're going to enjoy using the Emboss Resist Technique. This is a simple technique that makes a big impact. In the Facebook Live Video Replay below I demonstrate this fun technique and show you how to use Blender Brushes. I love this new set of tools. The Blender Brushes are available to order beginning January 5th with our new January-June Mini Catalog. They are sold as a set of 3 for $12.00 and are definitely worth the investment. You get a much softer look using Blending Brushes rather than Stampin' Sponges or Sponge Daubers.

Here's a close up of the Blending Brushes that will be available for purchase beginning January 5, 2021, in our January-June Mini Catalog. They are sooooo easy to use and give a beautiful, soft affect. After using them for these cards, I simply rinsed my Blending Brushes in cold water, soaked up excess water with paper towel, then let air dry. As you can see there is some staining which does not affect future use.

Below are more cards I made with the the Emboss Resist Technique. My next two cards feature Fine Art Gallery Stamp Set (also available starting January 5, 2021) with White Heat Embossing.

Holiday Wine Bottle Tags

I've been making a few Wine Bottle Tags for holiday gift giving. Below are ones for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I used the Gilded Autumn Suite and a sheet from World Of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper for my Thanksgiving Wine Bottle Tag. The Christmas one was made with products in my October Paper Pumpkin Kit, Joy to the World. I always love to make a few alternate projects with my Paper Pumpkin Kits.

IMG_0150 (1)Each Wine Bottle Tag starts with  4" x 12" piece of Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper or card stock. I score 3 1/2" from the top and fold gently. I punch a 1 1/2" circle to hang the tag. To create the "ring" that goes around the hole, punch a 1 1/2" circle in center of 2 1/4" square of coordinating paper. Then punch with 2" Circle Punch centering the hole in the 2" circle opening to and punch to get the ring.

Elegant Christmas Wreath Card

This week, I enjoyed creating with the Arrange A Wreath Stamp Set. The following is a video replay of my November 11th Facebook Live in which a started with an elegant wreath card I made. I then showed my viewers how to create two different cards (both of them fun folds) using the same paper crafting supplies and cutting dimensions. I love how all three cards turned out. One is just as elegant as the next. Very Vanilla, Metallic Gold, and Real Red is one of my favorite color combinations for a very classic style of Christmas card. I hope you enjoy my video demonstration and feel inspired to create with the Arrange A Wreath Stamp Set.

Simple & Beautiful Brightly Gleaming Cards

My November 9th Make It with Mary Monday Facebook Live was lots of fun. I used a limited amount of supplies to create quick, easy, and simply elegant Christmas cards with the Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP. I hope you'll watch my Facebook Live Replay and that you will be inspired to do what we in the Stampin' Up! world like to call "Simple Stamping" with our 3 main products - stamps, ink, and paper. These cards are great for beginner stampers or for those who prefer a simple style. They are great for people making their first card or for someone making lots of cards to send family, friends, and colleagues, or to donate to a church group or nursing home. And of course, you can always add layers of card stock, DSP, and specialty papers along with ribbons, trims, and embellishments to turn these simple cards into wow cards. The supplies used may be limited but the creative possibilities are endless. So enjoy this video, then grab some supplies and get started creating simply beautiful cards.

Using both side of the Brightly Gleaming Designer Series Paper makes it easy to create multiples of your designs and layouts.

Happy Christmas Snowman

Make darling Happy Christmas cards with the Snow Wonder Bundle. This traditional snowman brings back wonderful memories of snow days while growing up in Cleveland. As kids, we loved sledding, skating, and making snowmen and snow angels. As an adult, I still get excited to hear of kids having a snow day from school and love seeing them have fun playing in the snow.

As you can see in these cards below, I basically just made the same cards in different colors. These are pretty traditional colors for the theme of these cards, but feel free to step outside the box and choose a non-traditional color scheme - perhaps, pinks and purples, when creating your own cards.

The first card I made uses Misty Moonlight and Mossy Meadow. My second card uses Pool Party and Garden Green. The snowman was stamped in Gray Granite (You may want to "stamp off" for a lighter shade.) and colored with Stampin' Blends. A little sparkle and shimmer can be added to the "snow" using a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.
