Splendid Thoughts Fun Fold Cards

Card swaps are a great way to be inspired and get new project ideas and card layouts. In my August 19th Facebook Live, I demonstrated a Fun Fold Card I learned from a swap card created by fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and friend, Renee Kohnke. I love it and think you will too. This fun fold is similar to a Side-Step Card but much easier. Enjoy this Facebook Live Replay, then plan to make a few of this new-to-me Fun Fold Card. Perhaps, it's new to you too. My cards feature the Splendid Day Suite with its gorgeous Specialty Designer Series Paper and stamp set & dies.

Cutting & Scoring Dimensions:

  • Large Z-Fold card base = 5 1/2" x 8" (not 8 1/2"), scored at 1", 2", 5" on long side
  • Card front panel = 3" x 6", scored at 4 1/4" on long side
  • Basic White inside card = 5 1/4" x 2 3/4"
  • DSP 1 = 5 1/4" x 2 3/4" and 5 1/4" x 3/4"
  • DSP 2 = 4" x 2 3/4"

The following card is very similar to the one above, however, I used the reverse side of each piece of the Splendid Day Designer Series Paper, decorated the card front differently and without a sentiment, and have the front panel left of center.

Masking Paper Techniques with Forever Fern

Before jumping into today's project, I want to share what took place one afternoon this week in my Stampin' Peace Studio. I had some young crafters visit. My niece Avery has been watching Jameson, Addison, and Beau this summer, and asked if she could bring them over for a "crafternoon". Of course, I said yes. (FYI...these same kids were here 2 years ago when my other niece Alison watched them, so it was fun to have them back. And they were excited to be back.)

IMG_8924

Left to right in photo above, 2nd graders Beau and Addison, my niece Avery who is starting her sophomore year at The Ohio State University, and 4th grader Jameson.

We first made cards from the April 2021 So Cool Paper Pumpkin Kit. Do you remember it? Each child made 2 popsicle cards, 1 watermelon card, and 1 rainbow card. They each talked about giving one to their new teacher as "Meet the Teacher" was the next day. They decorated blank art journals with stickers and then ecorated gift bags to put their cards and other goodies in using Stampin' Write markers. Then we had an ice cream treat. Afterwards, the kids could create on their own using card stock and retired Designer Series Paper. They made signs for their rooms and cards for their mom and dad. All in all, it was a fun "crafternoon" for all of us.

IMG_8924

My sister Joan (Avery's mom) stopped over. The kids had fun sharing what they made with her.

The kids are ready to head home with all their paper crafts and big smiles. And I got big hugs!

A Wedding & A Move

Wow...the last couple weeks have gone by in a flash. Between Andrea and Jon's wedding on the 26th and Emily's move to a new apartment this week, I can hardly keep my days straight. It's a bit of a weird feeling to see your adult children being independent and going through new phases of life. I'm excited, happy, proud, but also find it bittersweet as my life changes too. Andrea and Jon are currently honeymooning in Maui, and Emily is moving out of her UC apartment she was in for 3 years of graduate school. She'll be living in a different area of Cincinnati that I think she'll really enjoy and will start her first real Physical Therapy job on July 11th.

Many of you have asked to see wedding pictures, so here are a few snapshots taken by friends and family.

The flower girl Charlie practiced "walk aisle" and throwing flowers so she was good and ready. She threw the fist full of flowers when she got to the very front of the aisle.
IMG_1819 2

The big moment for father of the bride and bride. Yes, it sprinkled big drops as soon as they walked out and stopped once they reached the front of the aisle. We've been told that is good luck. The officiant, Jon's dad, called it being sprinkled with love.

Beautiful Emily - not sure who handed Emily the umbrella to hold over the bride, but fortunately, the rain ended as quickly as it started and it wasn't needed.

IMG_5250I don't remember at all who took this picture. I think I was just so happy the ceremony went well and was looking forward to celebrating with everyone at the reception.

IMG_5236The cake was beautiful...
IMG_5236...Malley and Mila didn't attend the wedding but were represented on the back of the cake.

IMG_5236So happy to have Carrie and 2 of my 3 littles Griffin and Ben join us. Ainsley's softball team made it to the championship, so she and her dad Matt weren't able to come.

IMG_2944

One of the highlights of the reception...Mike the Best Man had surgery for broken ankle/foot and was still restricted from putting any weight on it, so was in a boot and scooter. He and Emily, Maid of Honor came up with this plan for a memorable moment of being introduced to guests. It was so funny and got lots of applauds.IMG_2944

"You're My Person" was played for the first dance, and yes, Jon sang it to Andrea.

It took Glow Sticks to get these littles on the dance floor! What fun they were!

Moving pictures aren't quite as exciting as wedding photos, but here's a couple I snapped of Emily leaving her UC apartment. (I didn't think to take any of her new place.)

IMG_7657Emily thought we deserved a nice snack in between loads of packing and unpacking so made this for us in her new kitchen.

Thanks very much for letting me share a bit of my family life with you all. I love that I can be my own boss and have a flexible schedule as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator so that I can be fully present for my family as needed.

Now, it's time for me to get back to a normal work schedule sharing creative inspiration and stamping and paper crafting tips and techniques.

Have a great week, everybody!

Artisan Additions Dies

Today, I want to introduce you to a brand new product - the Artisan Additions Dies. These dies are unique in that they do not match up to any particular stamp set. They are intended to add an extra element of creative and artistic expression to the cards and other paper crafts we make. I hope you enjoy seeing the various ways I used the Artisan Additions Dies to create some amazing cards in this video replay of my June 1st Facebook Live.

Stampin' Up! touches for Andrea's Bridal Shower

I've been a little quiet here on my blog and my social media channels over the last few days but for good reason. Sunday, Emily (my 25 year old daughter) and I hosted a bridal shower for Andrea (my 30 year old daughter). It was a wonderful afternoon celebrating the bride with family and friends and seeing so many people love on Andrea. It was so fun and such a joy to be able to put some personal touches on the day using Stampin' Up! products I love so much. From favors and decorations to even using my Stampin' Peace Studio to host the occasion. Here are some photos of this special day.

IMG_6224 (1)The XOXO treat boxes were add ons to the January Paper Pumpkin Kit Hugs & Kisses. I put chocolates inside each one and added a pretty Polished Dots Embellishment to each heart tag and tied with gold trim.

IMG_6224 (1)I used the Heart Punch Pack, white card stock, Create with Friends Stamp Set, Blushing Bride ink, Champagne Foil (retired) and Petal Pink with Gold Ribbon (retired). They were SOOOOO easy to make. Both favors got rave reviews from our guests.

IMG_6362 (1)"Love" was stamped using the Create with Friends Stamp Set.

IMG_6354 (1)

You may recognize this home decor piece I made before Valentine's Day featured in a blog hop. It too was made with the Hugs & Kisses Paper Pumpkin kit. I put it on a shelf in my kitchen to repurpose it for the bridal shower.

IMG_6224 (1)

I used the January Paper Pumpkin Kit Hugs & Kisses to make banners also. I put several of the fun fold card bases together with ribbon to create the many banners I used to decorate my living room and shelves in my Stampin' Peace Studio.

IMG_6224 (1)Do you recognize these? I used our Celebrate Today Magnetic Board Kit to make this collage wall over a sofa in my living room where I showcased Andrea and Jon's engagement pictures. This kit is so versatile. I'll be able to change out the background papers and photos for future family events, special occasions, and holidays. The magnetic board and gold metallic clips will make it easy to do so.

IMG_6224 (1)

I purchased a photo box and wrapped it with Petal Pink Striped Organdy Ribbon. Can you guess what I put inside? Postage Stamps and Thank you notes. Lots and lots of thank you notes I made for the bridal shower and the wedding. This was one of my gifts for the bride.

IMG_6378 (1)
IMG_6378 (1)

Stampin' Up! Notes Cards and Envelopes make putting together such a gift easy and inexpensive.

IMG_6237 (1)How many kisses for the Mrs. do you think are in the vase decorated with SU! Blushing Bride Ribbon? Guests used the white hearts with gold trim also from the Hugs & Kisses kit to write their guesses on. And of course, Basic White Thick and Blushing Bride card stock were used to make the sign. There were 221 kisses in the vase. 218 was the winning guess. PS. I kept foil on the top so I wouldn't be tempted to eat any of the chocolates. I love sweets, all sweets, especially chocolates.

IMG_6263 (1)I'm so proud of my girls and am grateful for the love and happiness they bring to my life. I never knew having adult children would be so much fun!

IMG_6265 (2)Andrea and her future sister-in-law and mother-in-law.

IMG_6376 (1)More photos of the happy couple. The cards on their were made with contents from the Celebrate Today Magnet Board Kits.

IMG_6237 (1)
Does anyone recognize this Designer Series Paper? I used Modge Podge to adhere 12" x 12" DSP to 12" square stretched canvases. These were hanging in my living room until I recently moved them to the sitting room off my Stampin' Peace Studio.

IMG_6360 2 (1)

IMG_6237 (1)I have a beautiful antique dining room set that once belonged to my grandmother then my mom. Since moving to my house in Columbus, I only have a small eat in kitchen and no longer have a separate dining room. The set is too big for my kitchen space and I didn't want to have it in storage so have incorporated the hutch and buffet into my Stampin' Peace Studio. They house my china and are used to display cards and other hand made crafts. It was used to serve the buffet lunch for the bridal shower.

IMG_6237 (1)I set up a couple of small table around my work space for salads and drinks. You will recognize my craft space behind the tables if you watch my Facebook Lives. I love that I can use and share my Stampin' Peace Studio in a variety of ways.

IMG_6243 (1)

I have 3 of these shelving units in my studio that I use for display and storage. On this one I hung more banners created with the fun fold card bases from the Hugs & Kisses Kit and displayed a few pictures of Andrea and Jon and a Love collage I made for Valentine's Day last year.

IMG_6241 (1)I had fun seeing Andrea take in the set up and all the personal touches for her bridal shower for the first time. I kept it a secret until she arrived Sunday.
IMG_6244 (1)I ended up buying this set of decorations for a pop of color on this big blank wall.

IMG_6243 (1)Pots of succulents and gift cards served as both center pieces and game prizes.

IMG_6243 (1)This game was a HUGE hit. It was fun hearing stories and memories shared as everyone tried to guess the ages of the bride and groom in the photos.
IMG_6247 (1)I used the SU! heart punch to punch Blushing Bride hearts to number photos of the bride and Soft Succulent hearts for the groom's photos.

Another set of DSP canvases to add some color and personality to the back corner of my Stampin' Peace Studio.

I realized I forgot to take pictures of the desserts - lemon bars made by Emily, a chocolate brownie strawberry trifle made by me, and heart shaped cookies made by our dear friend Rosie. They were all delicious.

Thanks for visiting. I appreciate the opportunity to share with you a glimpse of this special day in my life and the way I was able to incorporate my love of creativity and Stampin' Up! into the celebration. Perhaps, I have inspired some of you to add some of your own creative touches to your special occasions and holidays.

Stampin' Peace Hugs to you all.

Spring Tulips DSP Technique

Spring is in the air. I'm enjoying some warmer temperatures and lots of sunshine in central Ohio today. I can't wait to see spring flowers in my yard and on my walks in a few weeks. Until them, I'm enjoying some tulips in paper form with the Flowering Fields Suite by Stampin' Up!. This MEGA suite is filled with wonderful products that will make you smile the whole time you're creating with it.  And the projects you make will surely make others smile too.

In this video replay of my February 28th Facebook Live, I demonstrate how to  make each of these cards with a 3" x 3" square of Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper. It's an easy technique that makes a big impact. I love it and hope you do too.

Card Dimensions:

  • Card base = 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2" on long side
  • Basic White inside = 5 1/4" x 4"
  • Basic White on card front = 5 3/8" x 4 1/8"
  • DSP = 3" x 3" (cut into strips as shown in video)
